Jenny Samuel, Mezzo Soprano
Biography: Jenny lives near Southampton and studied at Birmingham Conservatoire, gaining a BMus(Hons), and with Mary King (vocal coach on Channel 4’s Operatunity and Musicality). She has since completed a Master’s Degree in Music at the University of Southampton with Christine Page.
Jenny has sung with a number of opera companies including English Touring Opera, Buxton Festival Opera, Swansea City Opera, London Opera Players, Opera Box, ENO, Carl Rosa Opera, Pavilion Opera, First Act Opera, European Chamber Opera, Vox Lirika and at the Spoleto Festival, Italy.
Operatic roles include title role in La Cenerentola, Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, Berta in The Barber of Seville, Pauline in The Queen of Spades, Kitchen Boy/Third Nymph in Rusalka, Zaida in Il Turco in Italia, Adalgisa in Norma, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Third Lady/Third Boy in The Magic Flute, title role in Handel’s Radamisto, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance and Pitti-sing in The Mikado.
As a soloist, Jenny has sung with many different choirs including Dorchester Choral Society, Portsmouth University Choir, Lymington Choral Society and Bournemouth Bach Choir. Oratorio solos include Messiah, Elijah, Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Haydn’s Harmony Mass and Nelson Mass, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Purcell’s Hail! Bright Cecilia.
Jenny recently sang Britten’s Les Illuminations with Southampton University String Sinfonietta. As a recitalist, she has sung many varied song programmes at venues including Winchester Cathedral, Southampton City Art Gallery and at the Buxton Festival.
She also performs regularly for Music in Hospitals and is in much demand as a singing teacher.
