Christmas Festivities and New Performers

With Christmas just around the corner, we welcome 10 new performers to the Showcase scheme!

Their pages will be going up shortly as we get their promotional material and they are definitely worth checking out – KLAUDIA has already uploaded their stuff, so for a fantastic playlist, check out their page here.  As other performers send through their details, we will keep everyone up to date with their pages on our facebook page – so make sure you ‘like’ us on there!

Any questions? Remember you can contact us about any of our performers, or general questions!

Festive greetings from the Showcase Team and see you in the new year!

Michael Finnissy’s ‘Remembrance Day’ Premiere

This weekend is a busy one for the university and our Showcase performers!

Members of the London Sinfonietta and Exaudi join students from the music department at the University of Southampton to perform ‘Remembrance Day’, a World War One premiere by Michael Finnissy.  The whole weekend also consists of workshops and pre-performance talks.

With an informal round table discussion of the new work and run through this evening (starting at 6.30pm in the Turner Sims), this is culminating in a Premiere performance on Sunday evening at 7.30pm in the Turner Sims!

It will be an exciting weekend for all involved and a fantastic premier of a new exciting work to commemorate our fallen soldiers.

Tickets are still available: please visit the Turner Sims Website.

For more information about Michael, see his university profile here.

Tenderlore Review

Alternative folk trio Tenderlore have received an amazing review on The Edge, here is a snippet:

“Individual solo singers themselves, Hayley McDonnell, Olly Lewis and Rob Kitney came together whilst at University in Southampton as fellow singersongwriters and music students. Their harmony is almost impeccable even when they are performing a song originally wrote by each other. Their rich vocal came together very nicely and the lyrical contents are captivating.”

Sea Slugs at School

Sax player Rob Kitney (year 3) tells us what Southampton-based band The Sea Slugs were up to just before the break:

On Friday 7th March, The Sea Slugs made their way to Crawley to lead a workshop in afrobeat music with the year 9s at Hazelwick School. As a brief introduction to The Sea Slugs, we are a 15-piece afrobeat band, many of whom are currently studying at the University or have graduated in recent years.

Showcase Update

Hello from the Showcase Intern Team!

We have been working on the website for the last few months to get everything up here and we are happy to say that we are almost finished!  With just a few more tweaks to go, I hope to see the website completed within the next few weeks!

Our performances are going brilliantly, with collaborations between our Showcase performers as well! Hatty joined with the Sea Slugs a few weeks ago and the effect was amazing!

We have also placed our first performer into a professional gig which has us very excited – and we can only hope for more great experiences for our performers to get involved in!

Remember – if you have an event coming up that you would like some live performers, get in touch with us via the contact form or: showcasemusic@soton.ac.ukShowcase Thumbnail Logo
