Updates on our solo performers

Michael Finnissy’s ‘Remembrance Day’ Premiere

This weekend is a busy one for the university and our Showcase performers!

Members of the London Sinfonietta and Exaudi join students from the music department at the University of Southampton to perform ‘Remembrance Day’, a World War One premiere by Michael Finnissy.  The whole weekend also consists of workshops and pre-performance talks.

With an informal round table discussion of the new work and run through this evening (starting at 6.30pm in the Turner Sims), this is culminating in a Premiere performance on Sunday evening at 7.30pm in the Turner Sims!

It will be an exciting weekend for all involved and a fantastic premier of a new exciting work to commemorate our fallen soldiers.

Final Performance Exams

Come and see our performers at their final recitals in the Turner Sims Concert Hall, Southampton.

Providing eclectic performances from Muczynski to Gershwin and back around to Horovitz and Haydn. Providing many hours of excitement in live music, there will be something for everything!

Remember to also check out our Conducting exams happening 7th and 14th May in the Turner Sims Concert Hall – our Showcase performers join together to be conducted by students for final exams!

Showcase Performance 28th March 2014

Come down and see our best performers in the music department perform in a professional setting!   We are at Turner Sims, @ 1pm, with free entry to everyone!

Including Anna Robinson performing some Muczynski on the clarinet. Followed by the vocal duet Bel Canto with a number of early pieces including Montiverdi and Handel.  Leila slowly moves us into the 19th century with a mixture of Mozart and Brahms.  This is followed by a move into the 21st century with Tenderlore and their set of original songs to be announced at the concert.

Many performance projects at Southampton are completely student-led, from the initial idea to final realisation. Natalie Davies (year 3) tells us about the final extravaganza of our Italian weekend, featuring rare Roman cantatas matched up with Vivaldi favourites which included several of our Showcase Performers:

Come down and see our best performers in the music department perform in a professional setting!   We are at Turner Sims, @ 1pm, with free entry to everyone!

Including Ellen Day performing Rachmaninoff and Scriabin on the piano, Kayleigh Ramchand performing two of her own songs along with covers of Beyonce and Timberlake, rounded off with the Josh Wakeham Quartet to get you in the mood for your afternoon!

Including Hatty Goody playing a mix of Romantic and modern duets for the cello and piano.  Followed by The Sea Slugs who will announce their songs during the set.

Showcase Performance 17th February 2014

Come down and see our best performers in the music department perform in a professional setting!   We are at Turner Sims, @ 1pm, with free entry to everyone!

Including Jenny Samuel singing some beautiful Mozart.  Anna Robinson will delight us with some modern clarinet pieces.  The whole concert rounded off by the SPF Collective playing a mixture of popular and jazz tunes that everyone is sure to know!

Showcase Performance 10th Feb 2014

Come down and see our best performers in the music department perform in a professional setting!   We are at Turner Sims, @ 1pm, with free entry to everyone!

Including the Highfield Baroque Trio playing some amazing Couperin on the Harpsichord with Violin and Oboe.  Jamie Harris moves us into the 20th century with some Turina on the piano, followed by the Josh Wakeham Quartet playing a number of Jazz tunes!

Come down and see our best performers in the music department perform in a professional setting!   We are at Turner Sims, @ 1pm, with free entry to everyone!

Including Neville Bharucha playing some amazing Mendelssohn on the Piano, Tenderlore (picture right) playing a set of original songs to be introduced by the band and concluding with the SPF collective – this time appearing as a Duo of Joe Nurse and Evie Asio Okwalinga – playing a number of well known pieces!
