Anna Robinson, clarinet
Biography: Anna Robinson has been playing the clarinet for 12 years and her enthusiasm for music has continued to grow. Since coming to university in 2009, Anna joined the Southampton University Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta, Wind Orchestra and Concert Band. In addition to this she has been a member of smaller ensembles including The Cadenza Clarinet Duet and her trio Claricello with Hatty Goody (cello) and Paul Gardner (piano). Through her music making, Anna has toured to a variety of countries including France, Switzerland, Croatia, Holland and Germany.
Anna also has a strong interest in jazz and has played in the Southampton University Progression Ensemble. This gave her the exciting opportunity of performing alongside jazztrumpeter Abram Wilson in a rare performance of Miles Davis’ Porgy and Bess. In addition
to this, Anna also performed with Soweto Kinch in the Gershwin Remixed project. After successfully graduating with a BA (hons) Music, Anna is now working for an MMus in solo performance, studying with teachers including Steve Dummer, Dai Pritchard and Ian
Peters. She continues to challenge herself by extending her musical experience, successfully auditioning as the principal clarinettist for Southampton University Symphony Orchestra providing Anna with the opportunity to perform Rhapsody in Blue and being Southampton University Concert Band’s assistant conductor in 2012/13 season. In addition to this, Anna has recently began working as a Single Reed Specialist for the Southampton Music Hub in addition to teaching privately. In the future, Anna would like to pursue a career in music combining both her passion for performance and teaching.
